Hosted by Sheffield First for Investment, Yorkshire Forward
and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, the 14 strong delegation
of civic and business leaders from Pittsburgh came as part of
the Bridgehead Europe project. This project acts as a broker
for Pittsburgh companies wishing to secure a foothold in the
European market place, which helps to secure inward investment
from North America to Sheffield and South Yorkshire. It is also
the bridge for South Yorkshire companies to develop trade links
in the USA.
As Phil Roberts, Chief Executive for Sheffield First for Investment
explains: “Sheffield has a number of links with Pittsburgh that
have been built upon over the last few years. There is an economic
synergy between the two cities, though Pittsburgh’s economic
recovery from industrial collapse is considerably ahead of Sheffield’s.
“Therefore we need to build upon the lessons learnt from Pittsburgh.
The models developed by Pittsburgh are valuable to local businesses
contributing to Sheffield’s progression to become a leader in
new technologies. This event highlights Pittsburgh’s achievements
and will be an inspiration to delegates.”
