There are almost 6,000 acres ofspace within the city, including
playing fields, parks and woodland and a further third of Sheffield
lies within the Peak Park boundaries
- Sheffield
has more woodland than any other city, including Ecclesall Woods,
which is one of the largest areas of ancient woodland within a
city environment in the country
- The
largest park is the City Council owned Graves Park, which extends
for 200 acres and includes an Animal Park
- The
160 year old Botanical Gardens is home to approximately 5,500
different species of plants, and in 1999 a £5 million restoration
project began to restore the gardens to their late 19th century
condition
- Hillsborough
Walled Garden is one of the top 50 gardens in Britain according
to the Independent newspaper
