The
Port of Liverpool - 77 miles (123km) the west from Sheffield -
has a unique multi-modal structure offering more railheads than
any other port in the UK, resulting in a combined throughput of
over 30 million tonnes of cargo in 2000, and over 600,000 passengers.
As one of the top ten ports in Europe, Liverpool now handles 25
per cent of all box traffic crossing between the UK and North
America. Developments of over £50 million are planned for the
next few years.
