The
Modern Languages Teaching Centre offers all students the opportunity
to study languages as part of their degree, including French, German,
Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
The School of Modern Languages and Linguistics offers French, Germanic
and Hispanic Studies alongside Russian and Slavonic studies and
is currently home to 600 undergraduates:
French is offered as a single honours degree, as well
as combined with
Business Studies, Economics, English,
German, History,
Philosophy, Politics, Russian, Spanish,
Law, and Computer
Science.
Germanic Studies
are available as a single honours degree,
including opportunities
to study Dutch, Swedish and
Luxembourgish.
German is offered for dual study with Dutch,
Biblical Studies,
Computer Science, English, French, Business
Studies, Economics,
Hispanic Studies, History, Linguistics,
Music, Philosophy,
Politics, Russian and Law.
Spanish is available
in a modular form as part of other
courses, such
as those listed above for French and German.
Russian is available
as a single honours degree, or with
Czech or Polish.
Dual honours degrees are available with
English, French,
German, History, Linguistics, Music, Philosophy,
Business Studies,
East Asian Studies, Economics, Politics
and Hispanic
Studies.
Undergraduate degrees are also available in Modern Languages. European
Studies, Critical Theory and Translation Studies are available at
postgraduate level.
The School of East Asian Studies has 220 students taking undergraduate
studies in Chinese, Japanese and Korean and East Asia:

Postgraduate courses include advanced studies in language, society
and country studies, and political economy, international relations
and business.
At the University of Sheffield, most single honours and dual honours
courses with a named language component require a period of study
or work in a country relevant to the language studied.
